Safety First
Fire: Make sure smoke alarms are working and close to where people sleep. Have a fire extinguisher within reach and make sure it's in good condition. Keep children at least 3 feet away from the stove, open flames, lighters, matches, and candles. Don't leave the house while the turkey is cooking. |
Cooking: Stay in the kitchen while cooking on the stovetop and stay home while the turkey is in the oven. Use timers to remind you to check your food regularly. Avoid wearing loose clothing or dangling sleeves while cooking.
|
Thaw Turkey: Don't thaw your turkey in hot water or leave it on the countertop. You can safely thaw a turkey in the refrigerator, in cold water, or in the microwave.
|
Deep Fryer: Use deep fryers outdoors and at a safe distance from buildings, porches, and flammable materials. Never leave a fryer unattended.
